Christmas verses in unlikely places....

Are you ready from Christmas? As you can see from our family vacation picture, we are already celebrating Christ. Christmas celebration and joy is not about sights and sounds of the season, it is all about the Savior who is Christ the Lord. Center your thoughts upon Him and you will be as the wise men who 'rejoiced with exceeding great joy.'
When you think of reading about the 1st coming of Christ, you probably think of passages of Scripture like Luke chapters one and two, or Matthew 1 and 2; but what about John 1, or 2 Corinthians 8:9, or 1 John?

For the next several weeks I will be sharing from my own devotional journal, passages concerning Christmas in unlikely places in the Bible. Today's text is 1 John 3.

1 John 3:5, 8 - "You know that He (Christ, the Son of God) was revealed so that he might take away sins, and there is no sin in Him...... The Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the works of the devil."

Application to Life -

I rejoice in the birth of the Lord Jesus, for His coming has given me freedom from sin and satan. When I lived a lifestyle of rebellion to God, I was a captive to sin and help in prison to do satan's will. Yet because the Lord Jesus has come, He has taken away my sins... as far as the east is from the west! He has rendered inoperable (destroyed) the works of the devil in my life. I am a new person in Christ!

Prayer -

O Father God, thank you for the manner of great love you have lavished upon us that we should be called Your children. The gift of Your Son is an indescribable gift, and for Him I give You thanksgiving and praise. I bow in surrender to You, and pray that the good purpose of freedom will be evident in my life to those around me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen!
